Miscarriage is unfortunately very common. Overall, 10.8% of women will have had one miscarriage, 1.9% will have had two, and 0.7% will have had three or more miscarriages. An estimated 1 in 5 pregnancies will end in miscarriage (pregnancy loss <23 weeks).
Miscarriage has physical, psychological and economic impacts.
There are multiple avenues to improve supports for women and men affected by miscarriage, including providing standardised clinical care, implementing a miscarriage policy in the workplace, providing statutory leave and recognising the loss with a certificate of loss.
